How can a mattress cause back pain?

Although there can be many reasons for morning back pain, the most common reason for a mattress to start causing back pain lies in the spring system. There are two designs found in today’s mattress systems:

1. Traditional Spring Grid

Traditional springs are connected using a helical wire. Because the coils can’t move independently, the coils will not conform to the curvature of your lower back. This system is also notorious for causing irritation with pressure points on the hips, shoulders, and knees.

2. Wrapped Coils

The Individually Wrapped Coil system is the most advanced on the market. Each coil, or spring, is wrapped in its own fabric pocket. This allows for free range of motion resulting in custom curvature for everyone.

As you can see, the traditional spring grid cannot offer the proper support for the whole back. Wrapped Coils may help reduce or even eliminate back pain and pressure points while sleeping.
